]]>Now, when you drive down Pasture Lane and pass the completed sections, it’s a tale of two Beaumonts: gone are the old stucco fronts, dowdy soffits, and aluminum windows, and in come the exciting mix of shiplap boards, colored cement panels, and field stone fronts to give both apartment buildings and villas a fresh, contemporary look. And did we mention durability? The use of largely maintenance-free materials extends their useful life well into the latter part of the 21st century!

]]>Since it was necessary to address the exteriors of most buildings on campus, residents took the opportunity to commission an architectural design scheme that would unify the structures with the historic Austin mansion – to carry the old stone look throughout and connect it firmly with the surrounding woodlands.
Residents took on the project in typical “Beaumont fashion.” Because residents own and govern the community, they decided collectively how and where to allocate money. To them it’s a matter of pride – Beaumont is their home, and they want their home to look its best.
Residents Gerry Isom and Jim Zug were asked by Beaumont’s board to spearhead the project – from budgeting and selecting the architect, construction firm, and independent manager, to phasing the project for minimal disruption. So who better to take you behind the scenes in this short video and give you a sneak peek at the new design scheme, the process and the timing? (And some very cool drone footage!)
Residents are excited to see their home transformed and are already thinking about novel and eco-minded landscaping options! If you would like additional information about our campus-wide enhancement project, please use the contact form below to reach out to Audrey Walsh, Director of Marketing, or call 610-526-7000.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
No residents in any level of care are positive for COVID. One Independent Living (IL) staff member is positive for COVID. We are continuing testing on staff and residents if exposed, symptomatic or if unvaccinated due to medical or religious exception.
As a reminder, we are requiring masks in all areas of our Independent Living community. This applies to everyone regardless of vaccination status. Wear a mask when you go out in public in large gatherings or areas such as the grocery store, community events, etc. A mask will help curtail your risk of getting sick. An individual may have the virus before symptoms present and can pass it on to you. Masks continue to be required to be worn in our HC and PCU settings per regulatory guidelines. We are planning to re-open our dining areas to residents in IL on June 9, 2022. Please be aware that if you take part in activities which require you to remove your mask, such as eating with others, there is a greater risk of potential exposure to the virus.
If you have a known exposure to someone who is suspected of being COVID positive or is confirmed to be COVID positive, please contact the Wellness Office:
1) You will need to take a COVID test 2-5 days after the exposure.
2) You will need to wear a mask for 7-10 days in public settings or until you receive back a negative COVID test result.
Be well.

One Health Center (HC) staff member is positive for COVID and is recovering at home. Three Independent Living (IL) residents are positive for COVID. We are continuing to test staff and residents if they are symptomatic or if they are unvaccinated because of a medical or religious exception.
COVID is in our communities, is highly transmissible, and we are seeing an increase again in the number of cases both in our community and others. Masks are required to be worn in our healthcare and personal care settings per regulatory guidelines. Although masks are not required in IL, you are strongly encouraged to wear one if you are not feeling well and to refrain from dining with others if unwell. A mask is a simple and effective way to protect yourself from catching the virus. As we know, an individual may have the virus before symptoms present and therefore can pass it on to you if you are not wearing a mask.

As we are all aware, you can contract the COVID-19 virus even if you have been vaccinated. While an N-95 mask offers more protection, this type of mask is often difficult to wear if you have any kind of breathing issues. If you find yourself wearing the N-95 under your nose or constantly pulling it off your face, it is offering you no protection. You would be safer to wear a well-fitting surgical mask properly. Cloth masks are not advised. Encourage friends and family to obtain their booster vaccine, if eligible, if they have not done so already.
We are continuing to see a decrease in the numbers of individuals testing positive for the virus throughout Pennsylvania and the country. Do not let your guard down as this virus is still highly transmissible.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
I am happy to report that we have no staff or residents that are positive for COVID. We are continuing to test Health Center (HC) and Personal Care (PCU) staff and residents. As a reminder, if you have not already registered, you are able to receive four free rapid tests per household from the government at COVIDTEST.GOV.
As we are all aware, you can contract the COVID-19 virus even if you have been vaccinated. Please continue to be diligent in wearing your mask both for your protection and for the protection of others.
We are starting to see a decrease in the numbers of individuals testing positive for the virus throughout Pennsylvania and the country. On January 5, 2022, 30,506 individuals tested positive for COVID compared to 5,777 on February 3, 2022. Do not let your guard down as this virus is still highly transmissible.

4) Bridge Games: Permitted; however, masks required; no food or drink.
5) If the number of staff and resident cases remains at zero by next Friday, February 11, 2022, we will begin to resume in-person meetings on Monday, February 14, 2022; masks will be required.
6) If the number of staff and resident cases remains at zero by next Friday, February 11, 2022, HC residents and PCU residents will be able to attend activities in IL beginning on Monday, February 14, 2022; masks will be required. However, these residents may have visitors; please make sure you wear your mask properly and do not take it off to eat or drink with the resident you are visiting.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
No staff or residents in any level of care are positive for COVID.
Beaumont will be hosting a booster clinic for the Moderna vaccine with Eric’s RX Pharmacy on Friday, November 19, 2021, beginning at 3:00 pm in the Beaumont Room. We are currently sending out appointment confirmation times. Eligible residents in all three levels of care will be able to participate as well as all staff and private healthcare members. You are eligible if it has been more than 6 months since your last vaccine. There are now booster recommendations for all three available COVID-19 vaccines in the United States. Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some people may prefer the vaccine type that they originally received and others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.
Although we had already established policies to make vaccinations mandatory here at Beaumont effective June 30, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires COVID-19 vaccination of all eligible staff at health care facilities that participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs as of November 4, 2021. The emergency regulation issued by the CMS protects those fighting this virus on the front lines while also delivering assurances to individuals and their families that they will be protected when seeking care.
These requirements will apply to approximately 76,000 providers and cover over 17 million health care workers across the country. The regulation will create a consistent standard within Medicare and Medicaid while giving patients assurance of the vaccination status of those delivering care.
Facilities covered by this regulation must establish a policy ensuring all eligible staff have received the first dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or a one-dose COVID-19 vaccine prior to providing any care, treatment, or other services by December 5, 2021. All eligible staff must have received the necessary shots to be fully vaccinated – either two doses of Pfizer or Moderna or one dose of Johnson & Johnson – by January 4, 2022. The regulation also provides for exemptions based on recognized medical conditions or religious beliefs, observances, or practices. Facilities must develop a similar process or plan for permitting exemptions in alignment with federal law.
Please be aware, even if you have been fully vaccinated, you can still contract COVID-19 and potentially pass it on to others. Please wear your mask to keep everyone safe.
If you have a known exposure to someone who is suspected of being COVID positive or is confirmed to be COVID positive and you are fully vaccinated, please do the following:
1) Contact The Wellness Office.
2) You will need to take a COVID test 2-5 days after the exposure.

Additionally, the CDC approved the use of Moderna as vaccine booster for populations like ours, as well as a new “mix-n-match” vaccine policy to theoretically make it easier to dispense boosters in the future. We already are in contact with Eric’s RX Pharmacy to schedule a Moderna vaccine booster clinic – once we have a schedule, we will notify you.
If you have a known exposure to someone who is suspected of being COVID positive or is confirmed to be COVID positive and you are fully vaccinated, please do the following:
1) Contact The Wellness Office.
2) You will need to take a COVID test 2-5 days after the exposure.
3) You will need to wear a mask for 14 days in public settings or until you receive back a negative COVID test result.
If you feel you may have COVID symptoms at any time, even if you are vaccinated, please contact The Wellness Office to obtain a COVID test and further instructions.
If you are returning from a trip away from Beaumont for more than 3 days, please arrange with the Wellness Office to have a rapid test completed. This test should then be repeated 2-5 days after your first test to ensure you did not contract the virus when away.

Two residents in the Healthcare Center (HC) are positive for COVID; all are fully vaccinated. The HC is closed to visitation at this time. No staff are positive for COVID.
It is imperative that you continue to wear your mask to keep yourself and others safe and follow all safety protocols. Staff, private duty aides and companions, vendors, and guests are required to wear masks in our community. This variant is continuing to spread quickly. When new cases enter our healthcare center, it requires us to stop visitation, activities, community dining and other enjoyable activities which affects all residents . Everyone needs to do his/her part to keep each other safe and so that we can continue to see our loved ones.
It is important to wear your mask during all resident activities, especially those in which you are quite close to others, such as card games or Mahjong. If you are engaged in an activity in which it may be difficult for residents to hear through your masks, please consider an online get-together during this time for safety. We can provide you with technical assistance in setting up online meets. If you have visits with children who are unvaccinated, we encourage you to be online rather than risk “live” exposure. However, if you choose to do this, masks must be worn by both the child and resident.
Currently, Pfizer has been approved for booster shots; Moderna will require more testing prior to approval. The Pfizer booster is to be available to us sometime after September 20th. We will keep you posted as to the exact date. We are also awaiting our flu vaccine shipment. For the elderly, it is recommended to receive your booster vaccine and flu shot 2 weeks apart.

Two staff members and one resident in Independent Living (IL) have tested positive for COVID; all were fully vaccinated. Contact tracing has been done and appropriate testing is being completed for each situation. The staff members are home. The resident is observing quarantine protocols. All safety measures have been taken.
We were so pleased to have enjoyed the benefits of the vaccines that were offered early on at Beaumont to both resident and staff. We made the decision to mandate vaccinations as of June 30th with the only exceptions being documented religious or medical reasons to protect the health and safety of everyone. Unfortunately, we are now looking at booster vaccines as the new variants are highly contagious and can be spread to both unvaccinated and vaccinated individuals. Pfizer received full FDA approval last week which may help to convince some previously reluctant individuals to accept the vaccine.
We have noted that there is an upward trend in our communities in which unvaccinated children are contracting COVID and in turn passing it along to parents or grandparents who have been vaccinated. We expect to see more of this and hope approval for the vaccine for children ages 5-12 will be granted soon. We have entered into a partnership with Eric’s Pharmacy to host clinics at Beaumont for the booster shot for ALL residents, in every level of care, and eligible staff after September 20th. We will inform you of the approved clinic dates once we receive confirmation. We suspect the CDC recommendation of waiting 8 months for the booster may be reduced as we are seeing breakthrough cases even earlier than the 8 months. However, this is not confirmed.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
No staff members or residents in any level of care are positive for COVID at Beaumont.
We are observing a continuing increase in the number of reported delta variant COVID cases across the country, including Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. Considering this alarming information, all staff will return to wearing masks in all areas of Beaumont. Healthcare workers, companions, guests, and family members, regardless of vaccination status will also be required to wear masks in all areas of Beaumont. Residents in Independent Living are strongly encouraged to wear masks when indoors at Beaumont and when leaving to attend any other public indoor gathering places. As has always been the case, in the Healthcare and Personal Care areas, masks must always be worn in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
The COVID strain has mutated, and this new variant is far more contagious and is currently spreading at a rapid rate among unvaccinated and vaccinated individuals. If you are vaccinated, you are much less likely to become seriously ill or hospitalized if you contract the virus, but you can still spread the virus to others. Unfortunately, we have not seen the vaccination rate that we had advocated for in our local communities to stem the rise of variants. Thus, we must do what is backed by science and practical to protect everyone, which is to wear a mask for protection.
Individuals at increased risk for severe disease include older adults and those who have certain medical conditions such as diabetes, being overweight or obese, and heart conditions. This also includes unvaccinated individuals, such as adults who have not completed the vaccination series, adults who cannot be vaccinated, or people who are not eligible for the vaccines, such as children less than 12 years of age.
If you are wearing the same cloth mask from last year….it is time to replace it with a new one. Ideally, a surgical type of mask is best rather than a cloth mask. Your mask should fit snugly across your nose and mouth. If it continually falls from your face and you need to continuously pull it back up when you talk, it is ineffective. If you remove it to talk to others, it is not protecting you or others. If you are wearing it under your nose, it is not effective in protecting you or others against COVID. If you need assistance with finding personal protective equipment, please contact us so that we can assist you.
If you have a known exposure to someone who is suspected of being COVID positive or is confirmed COVID positive and you are fully vaccinated, please do the following:

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
No staff members or residents in any level of care are positive for COVID.
We are continuing to see a rise in the number of delta variant COVID cases in areas of the country with low vaccination rates. In Montgomery County, our rate is on the rise but is still low. We have not yet been mandated to wear masks.
Wearing a mask is a personal choice – one which you need to make carefully and thoughtfully based on the information you have available. If, for example, you are going out to dinner with friends, you could ask if everyone in your party had received the vaccine. If you are attending a large event and you do not know everyone’s vaccine status, the risk could be greater. You always have a choice to attend these tyupes of events or not, and if you do, you may choose to wear a mask as a precaution. We know that it is possible to contract COVID-19 even if you have received the vaccine and, especially during this time when the number of COVID delta variant cases are rising, you may decide it prudent to begin wearing your mask again in risky social situations.
Beaumont residents are not required to wear a mask in any area or activity of Beaumont in Independent Living (IL) if you have been vaccinated. Please note that if you choose to visit a resident in our healthcare or personal care areas, you must continue to wear a mask per government regulations. Your guests and family members may choose not to wear masks if they are fully vaccinated in IL only. You are responsible to ensure that they provide you with proof of their vaccination.
Staff who work in IL areas ONLY, and who have received their full vaccinations, will be able to remove their masks if they choose beginning August 1, 2021. However, all staff, visitors, residents and guests who visit or work in our healthcare or personal care areas must continue to wear masks per the current regulations.

The Town Hall meeting will be held in-person on June 30th at 2:00 pm. Please plan to attend for important updates.
We are in the process of welcoming back family members/guests/future residents to our activity programs and to the fitness center beginning in the month of July only if they have been fully vaccinated. Future residents must provide proof of vaccination to our Marketing Department prior to visiting either of these areas. Residents of Beaumont who wish to invite family members or guests to activities or to the Fitness Center are personally responsible for verifying that those individuals are vaccinated.
We are still not able to include family members/guests/future residents in our dining rooms but will keep you posted. We thank you for your patience with this process as we continue to expand our staff in this area.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
No staff members or residents in any level of care are positive for COVID. The Montgomery County positivity rate has dropped to 1.6%.
Please continue to wear your masks in Beaumont, the mask restriction has not been lifted at Beaumont.
We are requiring the COVID vaccine for all employees of Beaumont by June 30, 2021. We are offering additional education sessions again with our medical professionals (both group and 1:1) to unvaccinated staff to answer any questions they may have regarding the three available vaccines and to provide information/support regarding vaccine sites. This policy/education also applies to healthcare workers who provide private duty services to our residents in all levels of care (companions and aides). Employees or healthcare workers may decline to receive the vaccine for true documented medical or religious reasons. In this case, they will need to wear personal protective equipment to maintain the health and safety of our residents and other staff at Beaumont.
It was decided unanimously by both Resident Boards and the Healthcare Committee that any new resident who moves into our community must also receive the COVID vaccine. We continue to applaud our residents and staff who are committed to working together for the well-being of everyone at Beaumont and to help us return to regular activities and socialization that we all enjoy.
Beginning on July 1st, any private companion/aide employed by a resident can dine with the resident in our Independent Living (IL) dining rooms, provided that they are fully vaccinated (2 weeks post last vaccine). We encourage all private employees to abide be the required dress code. We are still in the process of hiring additional staff for our Food & Beverage team so that we can look towards welcoming back guests and family members soon. We will keep you posted as to when this will occur.
It is now acceptable for residents in all committee meetings to hold these meetings in-person if desired. Masks are still required at this time.

We have decided to require the COVID vaccine for all employees of Beaumont by June 30, 2021. At present, 68% of our staff have been vaccinated. All employees have received this updated policy information. This policy will also apply to healthcare workers who provide private duty services to our residents in all levels of care (companions and aides). We are all excited to return to some form of normalcy in our lives and vaccination is a critical tool in allowing us to get closer to this point. Employees or healthcare workers may decline to receive the vaccine for true documented medical or religious reasons. In this circumstance, they will need to wear personal protective equipment to maintain the health and safety of our residents and other staff at Beaumont. We are continuing to have conversations and provide education to staff who have not yet opted to receive the vaccine in the hope of being able to answer any questions or concerns they may have so that they can continue to remain a part of the Beaumont family and have the necessary resources to keep not only Beaumont safe but themselves, their family and our community as a whole. We are all in this together and need the vaccine to fight this deadly disease.

Please continue to wear your masks in Beaumont, the mask restriction has not been lifted at this time and this is required both in Beaumont and in Pennsylvania. The current positivity rate for Montgomery County is at 6.3%; this is a drop from last week. This is encouraging news as the percentage of positive cases is dropping in our county. We also have some staff receiving their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine next Wednesday from Eric’s RX in Horsham.
In order to visit a resident in the Healthcare Center (HC) and/or Personal Care (PCU) please remember to get screened and have your temperature taken each time you come to visit. This check-in will occur at the healthcare center entrance, NOT the main entrance to Beaumont. The front guard house has been removed. Please continue to use caution when entering and exiting the property and observe the posted stop signs and the speed limits.
Beginning on Memorial Day, all Independent Dining Rooms will be open without social distancing for vaccinated residents only.

In order to visit a resident in the Healthcare Center (HC) and/or Personal Care (PCU) please remember to get screened and have your temperature taken each time you come to visit. This check-in will occur at the HC entrance; NOT at the main entrance to Beaumont. Our plan is to remove the front guard house next week after residents, visitors, and vendors have had a chance to get used to the new screening protocols. This will help to ease the flow of traffic a bit for all as well. Please continue to use caution now and after the guard house is removed for the safety of everyone entering and exiting Beaumont. Please observe the posted stop signs and the speed limits.
Beginning on Memorial Day, all Independent Dining Rooms will be open without social distancing for vaccinated residents only. We are in the process of working on a system to permit family members, outside visitors, guests, companions etc. who have also been vaccinated admittance to the dining rooms as well. We will be providing you with more information on this process in the near future.
There have been some changes in testing requirements in our regulated areas of the HC and PCU. Only unvaccinated staff are now required to be tested weekly in accordance with the Montgomery County positivity rate, currently 7.6%. We have decided, for now, that all other staff will continue to be tested at this time (vaccinated or not) on a monthly basis.
Also, due to changes in the regulatory guidance for the HC and PCU, residents may attend activities in their respective areas only, without social distancing. Also, residents may dine together in the HC and PCU without social distancing beginning today. Masks must still be worn when not eating.
Residents living in independent living (IL) must continue to social-distance during activities and wear their masks.
As new guidance becomes available, we will continue to keep you informed. Thank you for your continued cooperation and patience as we navigate this ever-changing landscape together. Be Well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
Two staff members are positive for COVID; one works in Independent Living (IL) and one in the Healthcare Center (HC). One outside vendor is also positive. All continue to recover at home. No residents in any level of care are positive for COVID.
Please continue to wear your masks in Beaumont, the mask restriction has not been lifted at this time and this is required both in Beaumont and in Pennsylvania. The current positivity rate for Montgomery County is at 8.2%, which is a slight drop from last week.
Beginning today, if you are fully vaccinated and are walking outside on Beaumont’s property, you can choose not to wear a mask. You must continue to wear your mask in all inside areas of Beaumont.
Our clinic at Eric’s RX in Horsham will offer the Pfizer vaccine for staff/residents this morning at their pharmacy. Eleven additional staff, five companions, and one vendor are participating. We have increased our overall staff-only percentage vaccination rate to 58%. Some staff have also chosen to receive the vaccine outside of Beaumont. Twenty-one days later, on May 21st, we will have our follow-up clinic at Eric’s RX in Horsham at 9:30 a.m. at their location for the 2nd Pfizer dose.
The visitation policy in both the healthcare center and personal care is as follows: You must continue to be screened and have your temperature taken each time you come to visit. Beginning May 1st, if you are visiting anyone in the healthcare center or personal care, you need to be checked in at the healthcare center entrance – NOT the main entrance to Beaumont. Additional signs will be posted to assist with this change.
Our plan is to remove the front guard house in about two weeks after residents, visitors, and vendors have had a chance to get used to the new protocols. This will help to ease the flow of traffic a bit as well. Please continue to use caution now and after the guard house is removed for the safety of everyone entering and exiting Beaumont. Please observe the posted stop signs and the speed limits.
We have purchased movable clear Plexi-Glass screens for use around our podium to allow speakers/presenters to remove their masks (if they wish to) during presentations. Please be advised that all audience members must continue to wear their masks during all programs. We continue with our testing protocols of outside presenters at this time.
Please be reminded, if you are vaccinated and are spending time with someone who has not been vaccinated and you do not wear your mask, you have a higher potential to risk catching COVID. We have already seen cases where an individual who has taken the vaccine has caught COVID from an unvaccinated individual who had it (both unmasked). So, please keep this in mind and always wear your mask as it continues to protect you! We know that COVID does not always present with symptoms in those who are carrying the virus.
A reminder to all independent living residents who may be experiencing a health or medical emergency. Please press your pendant or use your pull cord; this is best for receiving immediate medical attention. Or if you would prefer, please call the Wellness center or front desk. Please do not call and leave a message for an acute medical emergency on the office phone of Heather Heiland. This message may not be picked up immediately and we need to make sure that you get immediate and timely medical attention.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support and patience during this time. We are excited as each day appears to promise new steps towards a more balanced and normal life! It is nice to be able to also get out and see our neighbors; spring could not be here at a better time. Enjoy the beautiful weather!

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updated their quarantine recommendations to reflect a change in protocols if you have received the vaccine and you have experienced an exposure to another person who has COVID-19. If this occurs, you will NOT need to quarantine after an exposure if you meet ALL of the criteria listed: 1) you are fully vaccinated and are past the 2- week post vaccine point; 2) you are within 3 months of the date of the vaccine series; 3) you are asymptomatic since the current exposure. This guidance does not apply to anyone in our regulated areas, such as Personal Care or the Health Center settings. Please keep in mind, you still need to notify us if you have had an exposure so we can complete contact tracing; not all individuals may have received the vaccine or are asymptomatic. We can always perform testing. Please note, you should always be wearing your mask, practicing social distancing, and following other infection control practices.
We have successfully completed all of our vaccine clinics at this time at Beaumont. 99% of our Independent Living residents have received the vaccine series. 100% of our Personal Care residents have received the vaccine. 100% of our Health Center residents who were here at the time of the clinics have received the vaccine. New admissions to our healthcare center may or may not have received the vaccine but are always tested for COVID prior to admission. 52% of staff have received the vaccine and additionally 62% of companions/private aides have received the vaccine. We are continuing to offer supportive education to staff on the benefits of the vaccine and to provide them with resources and support in obtaining the vaccine at clinics outside of Beaumont.
The current positivity rate for Montgomery County continues to be just over 5% so we are continuing to test weekly. We anticipate it will drop to under the 5% mark in a few weeks; if this occurs, we are mandated to test monthly. Keep in mind, we may still opt to test more often to keep everyone at Beaumont safe.
In compliance with all state and federal guidelines, we continue with our gradual re-opening plans for all areas of the Beaumont community. It is an exciting time for us all and it is amazing to think how far we have travelled on this journey when we look back to a year ago! RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
No residents in any level of care are positive for COVID. No staff members in any area are positive for COVID.
This week, our Governor discontinued the requirement for a negative COVID test 72 hours prior to entering our state. However, we are providing guidance in this memo on travel and testing for Beaumont to keep everyone safe during this time. If family members wish to obtain a test prior to visiting to keep you and others safe, this is always encouraged. We can assist with this if they are having difficulty obtaining a test.
If you choose to travel away from Beaumont for three (3) or more days, upon your return you need to obtain a COVID test from the Wellness office. This applies to everyone, whether you have or have not had the vaccine series. Please call 610-542-2015 to schedule your test. The test is a “rapid test” and takes 30 seconds to administer and approximately 15 minutes to process the results – you do not need to wait for the results. This test can be scheduled in advance (and this is preferred) if you know specifically the date when you are returning from your vacation.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updated their quarantine recommendations to reflect a change in protocols. If you have received the vaccine and you have been exposed to another person who has COVID-19, you will NOT need to quarantine after an exposure if you meet ALL of the criteria listed below: 1) you are fully vaccinated and are past the 2- week post vaccine point; 2) you are within 3 months of the date of the vaccine series; 3) you are asymptomatic since current exposure. This guidance does not apply to anyone in our regulated areas, such as Personal Care or Healthcare settings. Please keep in mind, you still need to notify us if you have had an exposure so we can complete contact tracing; not all individuals may have received the vaccine or are asymptomatic. We can always perform testing. Please note, you should always be wearing your mask, practicing social distancing, and infection control practices.
On March 9, we will host our final Walgreen’s clinic in the Beaumont room for second dose Pfizer vaccine recipients. After this clinic, we do not have any additional vaccine clinics scheduled at this time. Be Well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
No residents in any level of care are positive for COVID. No staff members in any area are positive for COVID.
The confirmed follow-up clinic with Eric’s RX for our Independent Living (IL) residents to receive their SECOND dose of the Moderna vaccine will be held tomorrow, Saturday, February 27th and you will receive your vaccine at the exact same time as you received your first dose. We have confirmed with Eric at the pharmacy that he has the required number of doses needed, although it has been a challenging week for him to obtain them. We are so appreciative of him and his team for making sure we have our second doses! You all should have received your appointment cards on Weds/Thurs. and our memo about the availability of extra clinical staff support this weekend, “common side effects,” and steps to take in the event you experience all or some of them. Should you experience something that causes you distress or feels like an emergency to you, always press your pendant and/or call for assistance.
We are beginning our phased re-opening plan for all areas of our community, with guidance from the CDC and government agencies, and keeping an eye on potential COVID cases in our local area and within our immediate community. You recently received a memo regarding dining and the re-opening of our dining rooms over the next couple of months. We met with Resident Services to formulate a plan for expanded activities and guidelines, and you should receive a memo soon. We will continue to wear our masks throughout our re-opening process. In addition, we have updated our policies for staff and have provided updated guidance to them. In our highly regulated healthcare and personal care areas, visitation protocols have not changed per government regulations. We have been very fortunate here at Beaumont to have vaccinated our residents and many of the staff. We have received reports that some family members have also received the vaccine outside of Beaumont. However, the government’s efforts right now are focused on ensuring that individuals in our local community and state receive their vaccinations, and it is still too soon for them to loosen the regulations. We must continue to abide by their guidance. Our Governor continues to require a negative COVID test to enter our state 72 hours prior; this applies to individuals who have also received their vaccine series. We will continue to keep you updated if the situation changes.
On March 9th, we will be hosting our final Pfizer vaccine Walgreen’s clinic in the Beaumont room for final second dose recipients. After this clinic, we do not have any additional vaccine clinics scheduled at this time.,/p>
Thank you for continuing to wear your masks, taking our re-opening one step at a time, and maintaining all safety protocols. Please keep in mind that many individuals in our communities are still waiting to be vaccinated and the virus continues to be easily spread. We are on our way to greater freedoms and increased activities but it will take time and continued patience for us all to be in a safer place. We continue to be on this journey together and we appreciate the kindness and support each of you shows to your neighbors every day. Thank you and be Well.

The confirmed follow-up clinic with Eric’s RX for our IL residents to receive their SECOND dose of the Moderna vaccine will be held on Saturday, February 27th and you will receive your vaccine at the exact same time as you received your first dose. The recent news of many “second doses of the Moderna vaccine given as first doses, leading to shortages in PA” will NOT affect our scheduled clinic. We have confirmed this with Eric at the pharmacy. We will be in contact with you personally to confirm your scheduled appointment time next week. After receiving your vaccine, you will be presented with your vaccine card.
We are beginning to roll out our re-opening plan for Beaumont for all areas of our community, keeping in mind guidance from the CDC and government agencies. This will occur in a phased approach which will occur over the next few months. Please pay close attention to ongoing communication from various departments who will guide you through this plan, along with our weekly memos. We will continue to wear our masks during this process. In addition, we are updating our policies and guidance to staff to help them through this process as well.
Be Well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
No residents in any level of care are positive for COVID. No staff members in any area are positive for COVID.
Our second Walgreen’s vaccine clinic with the second dose of the Pfizer COVID vaccine was held in the Beaumont room on Thursday, February 11th for healthcare Center (HC) employees and HC residents, personal care residents and companions. We administered a total of 248 total doses of vaccine in 6.5 hours. 132 employees (52% of our total staff) received their vaccine (105 second doses and 27 first doses); 44 companions received their vaccine (23 second doses and 21 first doses); 30 HC residents (100%) received their vaccine (26 second dose – 1 Independent Living (IL) resident who previously lived in the HC received a second dose, and 3 HC residents received their first dose); 11 Personal Care residents (100%) have received their vaccine (10 received their second dose and 1 needs to receive their second dose); 8 healthcare vendors received the vaccine (6 received their second dose and 2 received their first dose). Those individuals who received their first dose only or who missed their second dose yesterday will receive their second dose at our confirmed and scheduled Walgreen’s March 7th clinic. Exact times will be announced closer to the clinic date.
The confirmed follow-up clinic with Eric’s RX for our IL residents to receive their SECOND dose of the Moderna vaccine will be on Saturday, February 27th, and you will receive your vaccine at the exact same time as you received your first dose. We will confirm this time with you in advance. You will receive your vaccine card at the clinic to take home, so you will have proof of your vaccination series.
In the future, we will offer new guidance on safely reopening various areas within Beaumont. We do plan for everyone to continue to wear masks, even though the majority of residents and a little over half of the staff have been vaccinated. You certainly are provided a great protection two weeks after your second shot vaccination; however, you are still able to contract the virus and could spread it to others. There are many individuals in our local communities (friends and family members) who have not had the opportunity to receive the vaccination, and you can’t tell who has received the vaccine or not. There are new strains of the COVID virus and there is some question whether the current vaccines are able to fully protect us. We need to be conservative in our approach and not prematurely abandon all safety protocols. There definitely is hope and excitement to be had in our long journey and we expect that more vaccine will be coming to meet the demand of the total population. So, please continue to wear your mask (only one is necessary at a time if worn properly). Be Well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
No residents in any level of care are positive for COVID. Sadly, three residents in the Healthcare Center (HC) who had a COVID diagnosis recently passed away. We have one staff member who tested positive for COVID, but has no symptoms and is resting at home.
Our second vaccine clinic held in collaboration with Walgreen’s for the SECOND dose of the Pfizer COVID vaccine for HC workers and HC residents, Personal Care (PCU) residents and companions will be held on Thursday, February 11th in the Beaumont room. We are also administering several first doses to this group for those who may have missed it or not have an opportunity to receive it at our first clinic on January 18th. Our follow-up clinic for these individuals to receive their second dose will be held on March 9th.
The confirmed follow-up clinic with Eric’s RX for our Independent Living (IL) residents to receive their SECOND dose of the Moderna COVID vaccine will be on Saturday, February 27th and you will receive your vaccine at the exact same time as you received your first dose. You will receive your vaccine card at the clinic to take home, so you will have proof of your vaccination series.
We are very fortunate to be able to receive the vaccine as so many are struggling with the uncertainty of when they will obtain theirs. We remain hopeful that everyone in our communities, country and the world will have quicker and expanded access to the vaccines so that all can be equally protected from this deadly virus and we can look forward to returning to a time of normalcy. RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
The current positive COVID cases are: two staff members and three residents who reside in the Healthcare Center (HC). We continue to test staff twice weekly in the HC and weekly in Personal Care; this includes the private aides and companions in those areas. The positivity rate in Montgomery County has dropped below 10% for two weeks, so we will begin testing weekly for all staff members – this will include private duty aides/companions in our Independent Living (IL) area.
Our vaccine clinic for the FIRST dose of the Moderna COVID vaccine we held this Saturday, January 30, for Beaumont IL residents only. Each resident who signed up for the vaccine received an appointment memo yesterday with their individual time to arrive in the Beaumont room; those who were not available to receive this appointment memo in person received a personal phone call with their appointment time.
The follow-up clinic for this group of IL residents to receive their SECOND dose of the Moderna vaccine will be on Saturday, February 27th and you will receive your vaccine at the exact same time as you received your first dose. Please mark your calendar now.
Next week, on Thursday, February 11th, we will be continuing the roll-out of our follow-up clinic for the SECOND dose of the Pfizer vaccine clinic for Healthcare workers/Companions/Healthcare residents/Personal Care residents only. Staff and residents are scheduled for the exact same time as when they received the first dose. A limited number of vaccines for individuals who missed the opportunity to receive their first dose of the vaccine will be available at this second dose clinic. We will be reaching out to individuals who have contacted us next week.
Thank you to everyone who provided creative ideas and logged countless hours to permit these clinics to run smoothly and efficiently. The clinics allow each of us to do our part to keep each other safe and come one step closer to fighting this virus and getting back to a “normal” life! We will still need to wear our masks after receiving both doses and continue to apply many of the protocols necessary to ensure we remain safe. So many of you have taken this first step to protect yourselves, your community and the world by agreeing to take the vaccine. We cannot thank you enough. We continue to work through these difficult times together, as a team, as a family and as a network of individuals who have the capacity to facilitate change in a positive way – one vaccine at a time. Thank you for your kindness and compassion for each other. Be Well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
The current positive COVID cases are: four (4) staff members who work in Independent Living (IL) departments; one resident, one companion and one staff member in the Healthcare Center (HC). We continue to test staff according to the Montgomery County positivity rate – it continues to be above 10% so that staff is tested twice weekly in HC and weekly in personal care; this includes the private aides and companions in those areas. We are in the process of adding additional testing for support staff in the IL areas.
Our COVID-19 Walgreens vaccine clinic is scheduled for January 18 and 19 with the Pfizer government-supplied vaccine. The vaccine will be available during this first phase for our HC residents, our personal care residents and our healthcare workers. Due to the additional education provided to our staff from one of our physician’s, Dr. Wolk, our nurse practitioner, Ryan Sholinsky, and our director of nursing, Marjorie Harding, we were able to increase the number of staff willing to accept the vaccine once they had a better understanding of the risks and benefits.
We are in close communication with Walgreens to schedule our next clinic for apartment and villa residents; we anticipate this will be soon. Some of you have received calls asking you to sign up for vaccines elsewhere. These calls are to sign you up for a wait list for when the vaccine eventually becomes available for the next group of eligible individuals. We would ask that you not sign up at this time but try to be patient until we are able to schedule our clinic at Beaumont. We can administer the vaccine to all of you much more efficiently and safely without you needing to leave the campus – which is both inconvenient for you and a potential risk for additional exposure. You will receive a memo alerting you to the day the clinic is set up. For the majority of you, we have already received your completed vaccination forms.
You will also receive a survey shortly that will ask for your opinion about educational opportunities for the vaccine. Please take a few minutes to fill it out when you receive it. Thank you and be well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
At present, we have five (5) staff and one (1) companion with COVID-19; no resident cases in any level of care at Beaumont. We are seeing the repercussions of gatherings that occurred during the holidays. The positivity rate for Montgomery County is at 10.5%.
Our COVID-19 Walgreens vaccine clinic is scheduled for January 18 and 19 for the Pfizer government-supplied vaccine. The vaccine will be available during this first phase to our Heath Center residents and our healthcare workers. We are in the process of providing additional education to our staff from one of our physician’s, Dr. Wolk and our nurse practitioner, Ryan Sholinsky to hopefully increase the number of staff who agree to take the vaccine.
The first COVID case of the new variant strain has been confirmed in Pennsylvania in Dauphin County (this strain is the same one discovered in England in December). According to the PA Department of Health, the individual tested positive after an international exposure. The individual had mild symptoms and recovered at home. The virus that causes COVID does mutate regularly and health officials do anticipate that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be effective against it. Our current tests used to detect the COVID virus are able to detect this new strain as well.
Thank you and we will continue to keep you posted as new developments occur. Be Well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
At present, we have three (3) staff cases of COVID-19 and two resident cases; one resident who had COVID in our Healthcare Center (HC) passed away. In the New Year, any resident in Independent Living (IL) who tests positive for COVID-19 (even if asymptomatic) will need to move into the HC to receive treatment for their full 14 days of quarantine. Our HC has the resources and highly trained staff capable of treating all aspects of COVID-19 safely.
We learned this week that our COVID-19 Walgreens vaccine clinic has been scheduled for January 18th and 19th for the government-supplied Pfizer vaccine. Unfortunately, the government has decided that in this Phase 1 roll-out the vaccine will only be available to HC residents and healthcare workers. We know this is disappointing as we were hoping that all residents would be included in the first Phase. Please know that we are working with our trade organization, Leading Age, to educate legislators that residents who live in communities such as ours fall into a special category of need and deserve to have the vaccine sooner rather than later with the general population. We will keep you posted as we receive more information on this critical topic as it is the highest priority. At this time, we do not have an anticipated time when apartment or villa residents can expect to receive the vaccine – there are many factors involved but we will continue to monitor the situation daily. Companions can be included as healthcare workers, and we are reaching out to them to inquire if they would like to receive the vaccine here at Beaumont as it is an additional opportunity to keep you safe. The Beaumont room will be unavailable for use on January 18th and 19th due to the vaccine clinic.
We wish you all a safe holiday. We know this has been a very difficult year—to say the least! Many of you may be feeling quite happy to say good-bye (or other sentiments!) to 2020 year and are looking forward to the New Year with high hopes. We were able to join together with love and support in so many ways this year, both big and small….if we could do this in 2020….we can certainly stay strong and continue to support each other with love, empathy and compassion in 2021! The New Year will bring new possibilities and new opportunities. We might like to see things moving forward faster, we know it is difficult to be patient as you have already been patient for such a long time, but things are moving forward in an encouraging direction.
Thank you for all the support you give to us, each other and every person you see or speak to throughout your day. Each kindness you extend to every person has a great impact as they are likely to pay that kindness forward to the next person they encounter. In addition, we never know the burdens someone may carry and your kindness may make all the difference in the world to them. Thank you and Be Well.

At this time, I have no new information to share regarding a date for vaccine administration; in preparation, however, we continue to collect the vaccine consent forms from both residents and staff.
Pennsylvania Secretary of Health, Dr. Rachel Levine is urging Pennsylvanians to stay home and avoid travel over the holidays. We are seeing a plateau in terms of the rise of new cases; however, PA Officials are evaluating their prior statement from Tuesday about extending their January 4th order until January 15th if a spike in positive COVID cases is seen after the holidays. RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
At present, we have two (2) staff cases of COVID-19 and one new resident positive case admitted to the Healthcare Center. Positive COVID Cases in Montgomery County have continued to increase rapidly since our last communication. They have now hit an 11.3% threshold. Over 10% requires us to test staff TWO TIMES per week. Hospitals are discharging individuals early due to a lack of beds because of COVID cases. We therefore strongly advise against holiday visitation.
Regarding the COVID vaccine: I have spoken with our Walgreen’s representative this morning to once again confirm numbers of residents and staff in all levels of care and to submit preferred clinic testing dates which would be held in the Beaumont room; this would not occur until sometime after the Christmas holiday. I will send out a memo when I receive confirmation of date and times. I would ask residents to refrain from calling me to inquire as to when the vaccine clinic is coming to Beaumont. As stated previously, as soon as I have this information, I will put a memo out to All Residents and Staff so that you can plan accordingly. It is taking a great deal of time for me to respond to all of these individual calls and I am trying to follow-up on what is needed to put the clinic together for all of us in addition to all the other aspects of COVID and the daily operations of Beaumont.
We are continuing to follow the Governor’s temporary restrictions as outlined below:
I would like to personally thank every staff member who helped us through our recent heavy hitting snow storm yesterday through today. It certainly made operations more challenging and extra effort was put forth by so many. Several staff made arrangements to stay overnight or came in early or stayed late to ensure that residents were well taken care of. Some staff worked extra shifts and/or throughout the night and everyone pulled together to ensure we continued to operate smoothly. RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
We currently have two (2) staff cases of COVID-19 and no resident cases. All contact tracing has been completed and additional testing is being performed. As you probably have heard by now, Governor Tom Wolf announced temporary restrictions yesterday which are meant to flatten the curve as COVID-19 continues to “rage” in Pennsylvania. Effective at 12:01 am on December 12, 2020 until 8:00 am on January 4, 2020 the new mitigation efforts that effect Beaumont are as follows:
Governor Wolf and Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine plead with Pennsylvanians to follow existing and newly-announced virus mitigation orders as we all head into the holidays. The newly-announced mitigation orders resulted because nearly 1,100 people lost their lives because of COVID-19 during the past week.
We anticipate in the upcoming week or so, due to the upsurge of COVID positive cases occurring in Montgomery County that we will need to begin testing staff two times a week. We will keep you informed. Thank you for continued support and understanding as we navigate through this next phase of the pandemic. Stay safe and well.

COVID cases continue to rise in every state in the U.S. Montgomery county currently has 16,115 cases; Philadelphia 50,354; and Pennsylvania 248,144. The U.S. this week set a single day high for new infections and a record number of people are hospitalized due to the disease. One of our local hospitals currently has 50 people hospitalized with the disease and this number has been rising, compared with the 100 people who were hospitalized back in April of this year. Again, we ask that you not participate in the Thanksgiving holiday events this year to keep yourself and others safe.
Although there is good news on the horizon due to the progress reports on COVID vaccines and the anticipation that they will be a major boost in fighting the virus, they are not expected to eradicate the virus. We expect a vaccine to be available for healthcare workers and the elderly around December 2020; likely for the general public in Spring 2021. It is more important than ever that we continue to be vigilant in wearing our masks, social distancing, hand washing, and making sound decisions regarding the virus in the short term. Please consider your health, the health of your neighbors and the health of our staff when deciding what you will participate in during the upcoming weeks ahead. Due to Department of Human Services regulations, we are now required to go back to Phase 1 in PCU only, which is essentially a RED phase. This requires us to temporarily suspend all visitation, outside appointments or travel outside of the unit, including salon appointments. Assuming no one else tests positive from the first round of tests, we will again test the same staff and residents in another week.
This does not paint a pretty picture for us in Pennsylvania and most areas of the U.S. are not doing any better. Right now, I am very concerned about the upcoming holidays and the choices we make. Top health officials and scientists are advising against having Thanksgiving at all this year. I am in complete agreement with this for your health and safety. It is one day of festivities that could lead to even greater numbers of cases and a high chance that you may be exposed to the virus.
I understand that you are weary and exhausted by COVID at this point. Hearing about it, having to wear a mask all the time, not getting to do the things you enjoy, and if you do engage in an activity, being told specific ways that you have to do it! You may feel like giving up. Please don’t. We are here to support you and we will get through this troubling time together with the love and support of our friends, family, neighbors and all of the staff who are doing everything they can to make each day better for you. Yes, it’s true, we do have a long road ahead of us. We don’t expect a vaccine until likely 3rd quarter of next year and even then, we will surely be wearing masks throughout next year. However, what will help us is if each person makes the choice to consistently do the right thing and then helps each of their neighbors to do the right thing. I know there has been a lot of confusing and inconsistent information put out by a variety of media sources which make it difficult to know what to do. Do not despair. Here is ONE THING that, if we practice consistently, will definitely help reduce the spread of the virus:

Thank you to all residents who have scheduled their appointments to get their annual flu shots (high dose). We have received our additional order of high dose flu vaccine today and those residents who had prior scheduled appointments will be receiving a call from Wellness to reschedule their appointments. Be Well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
We currently have two staff members who remain positive for the COVID virus; they are doing well at home and have very mild symptoms. For both of these positive cases we completed a thorough contact tracing process and have tested all residents and employees who have been potentially exposed to these individuals. As a result, 31 residents have been asked to remain in quarantine until a negative test result is received. All staff and residents whose test results have been returned to date, have been negative.
If you are asked to quarantine, what does that mean? It means that you should remain in your apartment or villa, have your meals and mail delivered until you have received a negative test result. You are welcome to go for a walk alone outdoors, but you must wear a mask or face covering and not interact with any residents or staff that you come into contact with.
We continue to be in the GREEN phase of re-opening currently. PLEASE NOTE:
The health of our residents and staff continues to be our highest priority. Therefore, I am requesting that you continue to follow the guidelines that our public health experts and your staff have put in place to keep you safe.
Best regards and stay well!

We currently have one staff member who remains positive for the COVID virus; they are doing well at home and have very mild symptoms. No other residents and staff have tested positive in our community at this time.
We currently are in the GREEN phase of re-opening. PLEASE NOTE:
We continue to find ways to stay healthy both mentally and physically during these challenging times. Physical activity is very important to our well-being as is finding ways to connect with family and friends every day, through a phone call or small activity. Always take the time to reach out to a friend to see how their day is going. They will be happy you cared enough to call and you will benefit from that social connection as well. Take a break from the television if what you are watching causes you stress…go for a walk, bake something (and share it with a friend!), pet an animal, watch the birds or the squirrels, read a book, have a glass of wine, say “yes” to that extra piece of chocolate, write in a journal, sing in the shower or car, dance like no one is watching and never lose hope. There will be an end to this ordeal at some point and our discipline, hard work and care for each other will have paid off. Be Well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
We currently have one staff member who just tested positive for the COVID virus; they are doing well at home and have very mild symptoms. We have conducted contact tracing and have been in touch with a small group of individuals to be tested. We will know very quickly if any of them test positive and will report those results to you if that is the case. No residents have tested positive in our community at this time. In Montgomery County, the positivity rate has dropped to a rate of 2.7% from 3.5% from 2 weeks ago which is encouraging news. However, we must continue to remain vigilant and continue to wear masks, socially distance, practice hand hygiene and stay at home if you feel sick.

As a reminder, we are asking residents to keep a personal journal of individuals you have had contact with each day (more than 10 minutes of contact with of less than 6 feet apart). In all departments of Beaumont, we are already doing this for you e.g. when you attend an activity, a meal, go to the fitness center, therapy, etc. We are asking that you do this in the event we need to do contact tracing if you have been exposed to someone who we believe may be or is confirmed to have tested positive for COVID -19. This is also part of the reason it is so important that all of your visitors complete the health screening and check in prior to their visit to you every time.
I would like to again clarify COVID-19 testing procedures after a leave of absence from the community for apartment or Villa residents. Many residents will be returning from out-of-state vacations in the next couple of weeks; please read the information listed below so you know what to expect upon your return.
Thank you for your continuing support and efforts to keep all of us safe. We continue to work together to ensure that Beaumont is a safe place for you to live – we follow up daily with residents, families, and staff to review our protocols and policies to make sure that we are all doing our part to keep ourselves safe in these uncertain times. It continues to be a balancing act of daily decisions to live our lives without contracting or spreading the virus. Often, the best solution is the simplest: make sure we are all doing the basics, such as wearing our masks and social distancing. As we have been asked to do this for so long, it can become frustrating and we may want to give up but we cannot. We will see an end to this pandemic at some point. Many of you can recall having lived through far worse or even similar crisis. Your efforts to help your friends and neighbors safe have not gone unnoticed. We will get through this too. Together.

We currently are in the GREEN phase of re-opening. PLEASE NOTE:
Please use caution when deciding to accept out-of-state visitors into your home at Beaumont. If a visitor from out-of-state is traveling from a county or area that has a high number of COVID cases, it would not be a wise decision to have this person(s) come to visit you at this time. Also, it would be helpful for you to inquire whether the visitor has been diligent in wearing their mask around others, if they have been practicing social distancing, and not getting together in large groups. While we cannot post each state’s numbers here and they change daily and each county within that state may have different “hot spots”; you can go online to check daily what the numbers are for a particular state to assess the risk for accepting an out-of-state visitor here.
I would like to again clarify COVID-19 testing procedures for apartment or Villa residents after a leave of absence from the community or a hospital stay:
When a resident returns to the community from a hospital visit of 24 hours or less and have received a negative COVID-19 test from the hospital, there is no need to be re-tested again at Beaumont
When a resident returns to the community from a hospital visit/admission of 24 hours or more and have received an initial negative COVID-19 test, they will need to be tested again on day of discharge or upon return to Beaumont and placed in isolation until the return of the test results. (If the initial test were to be positive for COVID-19; a re-test is not necessary and treatment and isolation would be provided in the appropriate level of care).
Currently we have designated the Liseter Garden area between the hours of 11am-2pm and 4pm-7pm daily for Personal Care Visitation ONLY. This is due to Department of Health & Human Services regulations. We must have a designated outdoor visitation spot and adhere to strict social distancing, proper disinfection, and limited numbers of family at a time. However, we recognize that other residents would also like to utilize this space for visitation. You are welcome to use the space at any other time than the listed hours. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this causes you or your family.
We are creating another outdoor visitation space for apartment/villa residents and their families in theFitness Courtyard. We have ordered large umbrellas and will be placing chairs 6 feet apart in this space. Due to the grass that leads up to this space, we do not advise anyone to travel in a wheelchair as the ground is uneven in this area.
Due to staffing challenges in our Food & Beverage department (staff returning to school and childcare issues), we are temporarily suspending indoor dining; however, we are actively recruiting and on-boarding new staff at this time. Additionally, eating with others poses greater risks to individuals as you are in close proximity and masks must be removed for eating, I have been asked “What is the safest way to engage in this activity if I choose to?” Answer: Yes, this activity does pose a higher risk as our mask is the barrier that offers us protection against the virus. So, if you choose to eat with friends or when you are selected to choose three friends for your table, it would make sense to keep your circle of chosen people small and consistent rather than choosing multiple people and rotating those people frequently. This will potentially lessen your chance of exposure. Keep in mind that we keep a record of every person who dines with us and who sit together at each meal in the event an individual should become ill and we need to determine who else may be at risk and may need to be tested.
It continues to be a difficult time to balance our daily choices for enjoying our lives with the challenge of keeping ourselves safe. I realize this is a stressful time for everyone and we are all here to support each other. Please continue to contact me or a member of my team if you have any questions or concerns or if we can assist you in any way. Be Well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
Since our last report, no villa and apartment residents have tested positive, nor have any Personal Care (PCU) or Health Center (HC) residents, and we have no active COVID-19 cases on our campus.
Since the very beginning of the pandemic, only two villa/apartment residents have contracted the virus and are fully recovered. Seventeen HC residents contracted the virus, nine of whom – most with underlying medical conditions – unfortunately passed away. In total, 26 residents have tested positive; 30 staff (29 staff plus one companion) have tested positive and are fully recovered.
We have posted our re-opening plans for both the Healthcare Center and Personal Care Center (below) on this website as required by the PA Department of Health and the Department of Health & Human Services.
We continue to offer testing to all apartment and villa residents upon request. So far, 219 residents have scheduled their appointments and received their tests. Some residents have been tested more than once. We would encourage residents to call the Wellness Office to schedule their COVID test as needed.
We are re-opening in the GREEN phase on Monday August 3, 2020. Here are the major points:
1. Mondays: Giant and Wine & Spirits – 10:00 a.m.
2. Tuesdays: Bryn Mawr Shops – 10:00 a.m.
3. Thursdays: Alternate between Trader Joe’s & Whole Foods – 10:00 a.m.
Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support and for following all safety guidelines. Please continue to wear your mask, maintain social distancing and practice good hygiene. We need to be vigilant against this virus for the health of all of our friends, neighbors and families. Be Well.

MEMORANDUM
TO: ALL RESIDENTS
FROM: HEATHER HEILAND, VP OF HEALTH SERVICES
DATE: June 23, 2020
RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
Since our last report, we have had 2 additional positive tests, with 2 positive cases in our healthcare center (HC). Fifteen of our HC residents whose tests came back positive have fully recovered. Nine of our HC residents, most of who had many health issues prior to receiving a positive COVID test result, did not do well and unfortunately passed away.
We have no active COVID cases in the apartments/villas or in personal care (PCU). Since the very beginning of the COVID pandemic, a total of 26 residents have tested positive. Due to additional guidance from the PA Department of Health, we again tested all residents and staff who tested negative prior to May 24, 2020. Resident tests in both the HC center and PCU were completed on 6/17/2020. We are finishing up testing of all staff members this week. We have also implemented a staff vacation policy, which requires staff to be tested again if they take three working paid days off, in an effort to further protect residents and staff. We have advised staff not to travel to COVID “hot spots” and provided them with a link to be able to check which areas are reporting higher COVID numbers.
We are offering testing to all apartment and villa residents upon request. So far, 150 residents have scheduled their appointments and received their tests. We would encourage residents to call the Wellness Office to schedule their COVID test now.
We continue to complete our staff testing in all departments. As of 6/22/20, we have tested 235 employees. Our total number of employees needing to be tested at present is 255. Our total number of staff who have tested positive is 28 (27 staff and 1 private companion) as of this memo. All 28 (27 staff and 1 private companion) have recovered and resolved.
Beginning immediately the following individuals will be permitted entrance into Beaumont for the apartment and villa residents only; however, they must wear masks at all times, follow social distancing guidelines, and you must provide their information to the front desk before they are permitted to enter the community. In addition, they must go through the screening process and temperature check each time they come onto the property:
Additionally, outside food deliveries will be permitted for both residents and staff beginning immediately.
Finally, beginning immediately, visitors for HC center and PCU residents will be permitted at the windows only.
Beginning on July 6th the following areas will re-open as we move into Phase YELLOW. Please note that additional memos will follow that will outline specific re-opening guidelines for each department so that you may know what to expect and what guidelines to follow:
Please keep in mind that you will still be required to wear a mask (and covering your nose) at all times; practice social distancing; and proper hand washing.
We will continue to have all meetings via telephone or zoom rather than face-to-face.
Please note:
It continues to be critically important that everyone continues to follow the CDC’s guidance; so please:
Wash your hands often
Avoid close contact
Put distance between yourself and other people outside of your home.
Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others
Cover coughs and sneezes
Clean and disinfect
Restrict travel
You could spread COVID-19 to others even if you do not feel sick.
Finally, as apartment and villa residents are permitted to leave the campus for reasons other than medical appointments, understand that we currently don’t encourage this practice. You are potentially putting yourself and others at greater risk with the additional exposure and we would prefer that you wait a bit longer. However, we are aware that some residents are already engaging in this practice.
Thank you for your continued support. Be Well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
Since our last report, we have had no additional positive tests, and have 1 presumptive positive case pending in our healthcare center. After initial testing, many of our residents with positive results had no symptoms and have fully recovered. Nine residents of the healthcare center, most of whom had many health issues prior to receiving a positive COVID test result, did not do well and unfortunately passed away. We have no active COVID cases in the apartments/villas. Since the very beginning of the COVID pandemic, a total of 24 residents have tested positive.
We are offering testing to all apartment and villa residents upon request. So far, 107 residents have scheduled their appointments and received their tests. We would encourage residents to call the Wellness Office to schedule their COVID test now.
We continue to complete our staff testing in all departments. As of 6/17/20, we have tested 205 employees. Our total number of employees needing to be tested at present is 248. Our total number of staff who have tested positive is 28 (27 staff and 1 private companion) as of this memo. All 28 (27 staff and 1 private companion) have recovered and resolved.
We have received additional guidance this week from the PA Department of Health that stated that any residents or staff who tested negative for COVID prior to May 24, 2020 must be re-tested again; no exceptions. Therefore, we re-tested a total of 15 HC center residents on 6/17/20 and 10 Personal Care Residents on the same day. We will be re-testing several more staff again to comply with this mandate.
Joe and I will be meeting to discuss again our re-opening plan and I will send an update next week with more specifics about what you may expect. We are carefully considering your requests and balancing them with the safety and security of all residents and staff.
Please understand that despite the re-opening in our county, the virus has not changed. We are making changes to what we are doing in an effort to provide more freedoms in a careful manner but the possibility to contract this virus is still very real. I would ask that you carefully consider your choices and as you make them, continue to follow the basic protocols set forth at the beginning so that we do not see a rise in the number of cases at Beaumont. I appreciate greatly those of you who have respectfully followed the guidance provided for the safety of you, your neighbors and the staff. Thank you for your continued support.

We continue to complete our staff testing in all departments this week. As of 6/10/20, we have tested 173 employees so far. Our total number of employees who need to be tested at present is 248. Our total number of staff who have tested positive is 28 (27 staff and 1 private companion) as of this memo. 21 of those have recovered and resolved.
As a reminder, we are currently only permitting personal landscapers into Beaumont at this time. We would ask that you, if you have not already done so, please call the front desk to notify them of the name of your landscaper and/or company so we can add them to our list so they are permitted to enter Beaumont. Also, it is the expectation that all landscapers wear a mask at all times when on Beaumont’s property and complete our screening process each time they enter the campus. No other personal contractors are being permitted on campus at this time.
In the healthcare center, we are resuming small group activities for non-COVID positive residents. Groups will be of 5 residents with mask wearing and social distancing. Groups will be run simultaneously to allow for all residents to participate. 1:1 visits will continue with all residents. Daily update calls will continue to families and POA’s of those residents who are COVID positive.

We all continue to be challenged by these unprecedented times. I encourage each of you to stay in touch with your friends and neighbors through daily phone calls. Ask a neighbor if they want to take a walk outside with you (while wearing a mask and practicing social distancing!). Call your family. Continue to email me if you have questions or concerns. There is a light at the end of this long tunnel…I am cautiously optimistic at this time. We continue to monitor the statistics as our county gradually begins to open and our number of COVID cases shows signs of slowing down at Beaumont. We must continue to be vigilant and conservative in our approach; however, the promise of better days lies ahead. We will get through this because we are strong and resilient. We have shown our love and ongoing support to each other. Let us continue to do so.
Be Well.

In light of the protests and riots against police brutality throughout the United States following the killing of George Floyd by [police officer] Derek Chauvin, I am proud to be part of Beaumont, an organization whose mission promotes “a spirit of mutual concern and respect among residents and staff”. RE: Beaumont’s Pandemic Re-opening Plan
Following, please find a copy of our Pandemic Re-opening Plan.
As you know, Governor Wolf is planning on moving Montgomery County into the yellow phase on June 5, 2020. However, Beaumont will likely move to the yellow phase of our plan four weeks later (July 4). As noted in Governor Wolf’s plan, in the yellow phase there are still restrictions in place for congregate care. We will base moving from one phase to the next on a downward trend of active resident/staff cases. Management will continue to monitor health indicators and adjust orders and restrictions as necessary. If an upward trend in positive cases occurs, we may reverse to restrictions of an earlier phase. We look forward to the next phase of our new “normal” and the future when we are in the green phase!
Beaumont at Bryn Mawr, Pandemic Reopening Plan, May 21, 2020.
General Guidelines:
Phase I (Red Phase) – Current Phase
Phase II (Yellow Phase)
Phase Ill (Green Phase)
Beaumont will remain in the Red Phase until formal notification is given otherwise by Joe Peduzzi, President & CEO.

We have had residents test positive for COVID-19 in the Healthcare Center and Personal Care. Since our last report, we have had 1 additional positive test resulting in 4 active cases in our HealthCare Center (HC). Many of our residents after initial testing who came back positive had no symptoms and have fully recovered. Five of our residents, most of whom had many health issues prior to receiving a positive COVID test result, did not do well and unfortunately passed away. Our 2 Personal Care (PCU) residents who tested positive experienced no symptoms and have since recovered and are doing well. We continue to have no cases of COVID in the apartments/villas.
We are offering testing to all apartment and villa residents upon request. So far, six residents have scheduled their appointments and received their tests. We would encourage residents to call the Wellness Office to schedule their COVID test now. We have received positive feedback from those who received the test as being “easier than they thought” and it allowed them to “put their minds at rest”. As a reminder, this test must be scheduled separately from other visits you may have already scheduled with Wellness; it cannot be combined with an otherwise previously scheduled office visit.
We have started our staff testing in all departments this week. As of 5/28/20, we have tested 59 employees so far. Some employees have already been tested previously; that number is: 20. Our total number of employees is 267. Our total number of staff who have tested positive is 21 as of this memo. 15 of those have recovered and resolved and were able to return to work.

I am sure you have had a chance to review the Beaumont re-opening plan sent to all residents by Joe Peduzzi. Please keep in mind that we will be carefully watching the re-opening of our county as well as reviewing the statistics of new cases of COVID in our area and at Beaumont. The decision to move forward with our re-opening with be based largely on a downward trend in the total number of resident and staff positive COVID cases. We have decided to permit personal landscapers to come into Beaumont beginning today; however, each time they are on campus, they must be screened and must wear a mask at all times.
Thank you to all who are following our safety protocols. As the weather continues to improve and certain parts of the state begin to open, I fully recognize how difficult it is to remain strong in maintaining the guidelines set forth. The Governor will move our area into the yellow phase of re-opening effective June 5th; please know that Beaumont is 4 weeks behind in our re-opening plan. We will remain in the Red phase of our plan for an additional 4 weeks. This means we will not be making exceptions to the guidance set forth. Please keep in mind that when you ask for an exception, were it to be granted, it would have to be granted for every resident in Beaumont, not just for one individual; therefore, we are not granting exceptions. These exceptions would bring greater risk and potential virus exposure to our community. The reason protocols were put in place was to keep our community safe. We have not seen a decline in positive cases yet. When we do; things will begin to change. Please know that eventually, things will change in a positive way and we will have greater freedoms and additional activities to enjoy again. Until that time, stay strong, support each other, and stay safe.
Thank you for your continued support.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
We currently have 13 active COVID cases in the Healthcare Center (HC); 2 residents have passed away. Some residents are doing well and not experiencing any symptoms; others are not doing as well. We currently have 2 active COVID cases in the Personal Care Center (PCU). These residents are doing well. We have no cases of COVID among residents in the apartments/villas. We have had a total of 16 positive staff cases to date of COVID. About half of the staff have recovered and are back to work.
We now offer testing to all apartment and villa residents upon request. Previously, testing of Beaumont residents was only done if a resident exhibited signs or symptoms of COVID-19. At this time, if you wish to be tested, please contact the Wellness Office to schedule a time to have your test done. This test will be done for you here at Beaumont and is not dependent on you having any symptoms. We anticipate that you will receive your results back within 48-72 hours after your test is taken. You will also receive an email (if you have provided an address) or hard copy in your resident mailbox of a detailed sheet explaining exactly what you should do to get the test, the process & what to expect.
I have spoken with our Medical Director, Dr Breish about mass staff testing. We will be approaching this in a tiered system across the entire organization. We will begin testing 20% of all staff weekly, beginning with those we feel may be at the highest risk of exposure, until we reach 100%, using the nasopharyngeal swab as this test has shown to be most effective. Staff will be receiving detailed instructions on how this process will work; it will be at no cost to the employee.
Please note:
Please be aware that there is a new “SCAM” targeting seniors right now. An individual may call you and tell you that they are following up on a positive COVID person. They claim to be using “contact tracing” and believe you may have been exposed to the virus. During the call the person may ask you for your personal identifying information. DO NOT GIVE PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE. Please hang up immediately and report this to Joe or myself.
It continues to be critically important that everyone continues to follow the CDC’s guidance; so please:
Wash your hands often
Avoid close contact
Cover you mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others
Cover coughs and sneezes

As we welcome in the Memorial Day weekend and the promise of nicer weather each day, it typically is a weekend that is full of holiday travels and outside plans. I would caution each of you and ask you to give serious thought about traveling outside Beaumont this weekend. We strongly advise against this practice as you will be taking a chance in exposing yourself to the virus. In exposing yourself, you expose others. Each of us needs to continue to do our part in helping to stop the spread of this deadly disease. Please make the right choice for yourself, your neighbors, your family and the staff.

Dear Residents,
Many of you probably saw the headline story in today’s Philadelphia Inquirer. On Page A4 there is a listing of cases and deaths of nursing home residents in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The data released by the Pennsylvania Department of Health is grossly inaccurate, not only for our community, but our leading competition as well.
Currently and as reported to you in the past, Beaumont has had 14 residents in the Health Center, 2 residents in Personal Care and 15 employees who have tested positive. As we navigate our way through this pandemic, we will continue to be fully transparent to you while maintaining the personal privacy conditions legislated by HIPAA.
Heather Heiland, Vice President of Health Services, has contacted the
Pennsylvania Department of Health to inform them of the inaccurate reporting of our data.
Stay safe and well.

After announcing our first positive resident case of COVID-19 in the healthcare center, we made the decision to test all residents in both the Healthcare Center (HC) and our Personal Care (PCU) center. The results came back, and as of early this morning we have a total of 14 active cases in the HC center and 2 active cases in the PCU. Initial results showed a cluster in one area however they began to branch throughout all areas of the HC center as more results came in. Some residents have started to show some signs and symptoms, while others have no symptoms. We have notified residents and families of the results and all of the government agencies that we must update as well. We will continue to provide daily updates to families of positive COVID residents on their status.
Our total number of positive staff cases remains at fifteen. It continues to be critically important that everyone continues to follow the CDC’s guidance; so please:

I know this is difficult news to hear, especially since we had been doing so well for such a long period of time. However, this is not entirely unexpected especially when we look at how the numbers of positive cases outside the Beaumont community continue to climb and how our politicians struggle to find safe ways to re-open our world in the face of financial pressure and the wants of citizens who are frustrated with the “new normal” and want to experience freedom once again.
It is particularly unbearable to lose someone to the virus who you love and care about deeply, and who brought joy to your life every day. Sometimes, there are no words. Many people are struggling with this right now. We need to continue to come together to support each other during this time: a phone call to check in on a neighbor, a walk outside, practicing good self-care and reaching out to ask for help when needed.
The staff and I are committed to be here for all of you throughout this crisis and to provide the support and care you need. We will get through this. I know many of you have lived through very challenging times and are very strong individuals.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support, we will get through this together. Be Well.

LETTER FROM HEATHER HEILAND, V.P. OF HEALTH SERVICES
May 14, 2020
Dear Beaumont Residents, Staff and Family Members,
I hope this letter finds you and your family well. Each day we wake to news of COVID-19 and its impact on our world, nation and local communities. We take stock of how it has changed our lives and look with anticipation for a return to normal. With that in mind, we want to continue to keep you informed of current actions being taken to ensure the safety of our community.
We have had residents test positive for COVID-19 in the Healthcare Center. Since our last report, we have had 1 additional positive test resulting in 2 active cases. Given the approximately 630 residents and staff at Beaumont, this continues to represent a small portion of the total community population. We have also had 16 negative tests of residents tested in the community. Family members and representatives of residents whose test results are positive have been contacted.
We are monitoring all residents in the Healthcare Center (HC) and Personal Care Unit (PCU) for any signs and symptoms and taking their temperatures every shift. We recently tested all residents in both the HC and PCU to determine if we have additional positive cases that may be asymptomatic. These results will be communicated to you as soon as they’re available.
Our community continues to implement extensive safety protocols to limit the spread of the virus. These collective efforts have been critical in protecting our residents and employees. These steps include resident health monitoring, implementation of appropriate isolation protocols, continuing our no visitor policy, elimination of communal activities, employee screenings and temperature checks before each shift, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, and proper social distancing practices to limit personal contact.
We are committed to keeping you informed as we move through this difficult time. Be well, sincerely, Heather

As of noon today, we now have 57,154 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Pennsylvania, with 37,384 or 65.4% residing in Southeastern Pennsylvania counties (Berks 3,417; Bucks 4,028; Chester 1884; Delaware 5,046; Lancaster 2256; Montgomery 5,292; Philadelphia 15,008; and Schuylkill 453). We here at Beaumont have experienced our first COVID-19 positive resident in the HealthCare Center (HC) as of late last night. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to keep the virus from our resident population, we are now actively dealing with what we have long prepared for. We have already taken several steps:
Our total number of positive staff cases remains at fifteen.
It continues to be critically important that everyone continues to follow the CDC’s guidance; so please:
Wash your hands often
Avoid close contact

I recognize that this is a very challenging time for us all. I continue to need everyone’s support in following our guidelines so that we can keep as many residents and staff as safe as possible. It has been a long road and will continue to take the courage and strength of all of us continuing to come together to work towards a common goal. We had sincerely hoped that as the outside world had started to reopen that we would have that opportunity as well. However, the local county numbers show that we are not yet ready to do so and now that we have our first positive resident case, we must be extra cautious. Each decision that we make as individuals affects others in this extraordinary time. We are dependent on our friends and neighbors to help us stay well. Knowing the potential outcomes for our friends, neighbors, and families; I am asking each of you to please stay on track, make the right decision (even though you are tired of it!) because your choice affects so many people. I am counting on you.
Thank you so much for your ongoing care and support. Be Well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
At this time, no resident at Beaumont has tested positive for COVID-19.
Our total number of positive staff cases has increased to fifteen. Some of our staff members have recovered and returned to work. Some are at home recuperating and we update the local health authorities on a daily basis, as required. We will post this total number at our front desk and on our internal Beaumont TV Channel 1970 daily to maintain total transparency for both residents and staff. However, we will continue to maintain the confidentiality of the identity of the staff members themselves.
Currently, local health authorities have stated that they would like all health care workers and residents in communities like ours tested. This has been broadcast in the news. However, the PA Department of Health (DOH) and the elected officials who are calling for all this testing have not yet been able to effectively solve the shortage of available test kits in PA. I have been in touch with representatives from the local DOH and the Health Department to let them know of the disconnect between what is being broadcast and the very real shortages that prevent us from being able to do this in real time. I have personally spoken with a physician representative from the DOH and asked that he take my concerns back to their offices. I am also following up on all potential resources to try to obtain test kits for Beaumont.
In addition, we are currently working on the details of our plan to re-open Beaumont safely in three phases. Our plan will closely follow the Governor’s; however, it will be four weeks behind, be conservative, and will be based directly on resident and staff data. How quickly we can begin offering services or lifting restrictions will be determined by the percentages of decreasing cases. We will have detailed information for you very soon that will outline the specifics in all areas of Beaumont and all safety parameters.
I want to wish all mothers a beautiful and Happy Mother’s Day! We have planned special events for this upcoming holiday to connect residents and families to make the day special as we want every Mother to look and feel her best on this special day, especially this year!

Our total number of positive staff cases has increased to thirteen. Some of the staff members have recovered and returned to work. Some are at home recuperating and we update the local health authorities as required on a daily basis. We will post this total number at our front desk and on our internal Beaumont TV Channel 1970 daily to maintain total transparency for both residents and staff. However, we will continue to maintain the confidentiality of the identity of the staff members themselves.
Recently I have received articles and questions from residents regarding “pulse oximeter” machines and the questionable value in testing both staff and residents. According to our Medical Director, Dr. Breish, checking pulse ox in patients is a good idea, but there is little value in testing pulse ox in staff. No other communities similar to Beaumont, that we are aware of, are checking pulse ox values in their staff. One of the main issues is that abnormal pulse ox readings are non-specific. Someone could have an abnormal pulse ox because their hands are cold. We also do not have data on staff baseline pulse ox. A staff member with a chronic lung disease may have an abnormal pulse ox all the time. Currently, we have available pulse oximeter machines at Beaumont and we do use them to check residents.
New symptoms that would exclude an individual from entering Beaumont were added to our health screening tool earlier this week. This guidance we received directly from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). They include:
1. Chills
2. Repeated shaking with chills
3. Muscle pain
4. Headache
5. Sore throat
6. New loss of taste or smell
Please continue to reach out to your healthcare provider if you experience any of these additional symptoms.
Local golf courses are opening today (May 1). Upon further investigation, it appears that safety practices are being put in place such as: only one golfer per cart, significant social distancing between each cart, disinfecting procedures, etc. I would advise strongly that you continue to be vigilant in your personal safe practices approach should you choose to participate in this activity. My understanding is that the club rooms are closed. Please continue to wear a mask, bring your hand sanitizer and utilize caution with social distancing. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.
We continue to be closed to visitors at this time. I receive a significant number of calls and emails requesting personal exceptions to this rule. Please understand, if I make an exception for one person or family, it is only fair to make the exception for the entire community – which presents a safety concern for all as we have hundreds of residents. I fully recognize the hardship this presents to many as it is heartbreaking to have to be separated physically from family and loved ones. Unfortunately, we continue to see ongoing positive cases of staff at Beaumont, and of both staff and residents at nearby communities. The number of cases continue to climb – the US has reached over 1 million positive COVID-19 cases, and we are by no means “out of the woods”. Our governmental leaders are faced with the difficult task of balancing harsh economic realities with human lives. At Beaumont, we are doing everything we can to keep our residents safe but I know it has been challenging to live with the variety of restrictions. I will continue to ask for your patience and support. I promise you that my team and I are continually thinking of ways to offer new and diverse activities as well as essential services during this pandemic but within appropriate infection-controlled guidelines. We are also mandated by government agencies as to what we can and cannot do; all of which makes sense right now due to the high risks certain activities can pose to our residents.
Thank you to all who have reached out with your positive comments and support of the efforts of the staff. Also, I thank those of you who are willing to follow the guidelines set forth; I know it is not an easy task and I sincerely appreciate it. Be Well.

Our total number of positive staff cases has increased to seven. Some of the staff members have recovered and have been able to return to work. Some are at home recuperating and we update the local health authorities on a daily basis, as required. Each staff member may have had a different scenario which we are assisting in managing with the guidance of our Medical Director, Dr. Charles Breisch. We will post the total number of cases at our front desk daily for total transparency to both residents and staff. However, we will continue to maintain the confidentiality of the identity of the staff members themselves.
For example, a staff member might be at home, feel ill and call to let us know that they are experiencing signs and symptoms. We then will remove them from the schedule and direct them to contact their physician and get tested for COVID-19. They would not return to work until they are free from signs and symptoms for seven days and free from a fever for three days without the use of fever reducing medication.
Another scenario might be that a staff member may have an exposure to a family member who tested positive for COVID-19. We would have them self-quarantine for a period of fourteen days, if they had no symptoms. If they experienced symptoms, they would then follow the guidelines of testing and return to work as stated above.
Significant contact with an exposed person is considered to be for a period of at least 10 minutes and in a distance of less than 6 feet. This is the reason that all staff must wear masks at all times and maintain social distancing. We are also giving this message to residents. Every person who enters Beaumont is required to wear a mask at this point. Because of generous donations from many kind individuals in and outside of Beaumont, residents have recently been provided with a second mask to wear while they wash the original mask. Visitors must continue to answer our health questionnaire and have their temperature taken. If a staff member also works at another community that has COVID-19 positive residents, further investigation is done to determine if that person has worked directly with those patients. If that staff member has worked directly with a COVID-19 positive patient, further steps are taken to safeguard residents and staff at Beaumont.
Daily decisions to keep the residents and staff of Beaumont safe is my top priority and I take a very conservative approach in all matters as this pertains directly to human life. I make my decisions based on a range of reputable COVID-19 resources and under the guidance of top medical professionals with whom I consult on a regular basis. I understand that politicians are discussing “loosening things up” in the general community in the very near future. I see a more conservative approach for us here at Beaumont as we have a population that is at a higher risk and therefore in need of greater protection. I sincerely appreciate all of your patience during this particularly challenging time. This is not an easy road for you and future generations will talk about this pandemic; it will certainly go down in our history as an event to be remembered. Leaders will be remembered for what they did or did not do and the decisions that they made. However, I know that we will get through this together and we will be stronger for it. Thank you for your continued support. Please be well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
Governor Wolf announced on Wednesday, April 15th that essential businesses that are open in Pennsylvania must have their workers wear a mask. In addition, all customers who enter those businesses must wear a mask. This is further evidence that we at Beaumont must do the same to protect all of us against this virus. At this time, we have been able to distribute cloth masks to all residents with instructions on how to care for them. We will distribute more as our supply grows and it is feasible. Our thanks to the individuals who have helped us during this pandemic. In addition, the Governor released a list of protocols for businesses which I am pleased to say that Beaumont already had in place since March to keep our residents and staff safe.
At this time, no resident at Beaumont is positive for COVID-19.
However, the number of staff who tested positive has increased to five. These staff members did everything they could to prevent the spread of the illness. As soon as they felt ill, they immediately stayed home and were tested. They are all recovering in their homes. We continue to follow the guidance of our Medical Director, Dr. Breish and the CDC by wearing masks at all times, following social distancing, and washing hands properly.
I have been asked about our policy regarding travel and quarantine procedures. First, I would advise that residents not travel unnecessarily as a way to keep you and Beaumont safe. Individuals have been stopped by authorities at the state line to prevent out-of-state travel. However, if you choose to travel out of state, you will be in quarantine in your apartment or villa for a period of fourteen days once you return. Meal delivery services will be provided to you and groceries as needed. Staff will assist you with obtaining delivery of your mail. You will not be permitted to visit the common areas of the building until your quarantine is finished.
Emergency medical appointments continue to be permitted and encouraged as your health and well-being are of primary importance. Please wear your mask, use hand sanitizer and maintain social distancing.
Please continue to make good choices for the well-being of you and others as we are all in this together and your decisions affect your neighbors and the staff who provide services to you. I know how challenging a time this is for each of you – but we are a family, and a family takes care of each other. I am so grateful for the outpouring of support that I have received and the kudos that you have given to our staff. Please be well.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
Unfortunately, we continue to see the number of positive COVID-19 cases rise rapidly in our county, in Pennsylvania, and in nearby facilities similar to Beaumont.
Currently, we continue to have no positive resident cases for COVID-19 at Beaumont.
However, the number of staff cases continues to rise and now stands at four. The staff members at this time are recovering in their homes and we receive daily updates on their status. We have contacted the local health authorities and will be in touch with updates as needed. All staff continues to wear masks as this is our residents’ greatest protection against the virus.
Today, all apartment and villa residents will receive a phone call from a staff member to ask if they currently have a mask; if not, we will provide them with either a cloth mask or a bandana today. We will strongly advise them to wear this any time there could be human contact, to maintain social distancing of 6 feet, to practice excellent and frequent hand washing, and/or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if a sink is not available.
Several residents have asked to know the identity of the staff who is presently ill. We cannot provide this information due to HIPPA regulations; however, this is the directive that offered to all:
“Assume that every staff person or resident whom you come into contact with carries the virus and act accordingly.”
The virus can be transmitted from person to person, even among those who exhibit no symptoms at all. So, everyone must continue to use health safety practices at all times. For those who have been doing this all along, “THANK YOU!” For those who have not been diligently following the procedures, now is the time to start. Note that when wearing a mask it must cover your nose and mouth, and should not be removed to talk to others.
Thanks to everyone at Beaumont for being supportive of each other during these very difficult and trying times. We are all in this together and “this too shall pass”…eventually. Thanks to everyone for finding creative ways to keep our collective spirits up, and for the outpouring of love and support. It means so very much.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
As new cases of COVID-19 continue to develop throughout Montgomery County and Pennsylvania, we have been planning and preparing for our first confirmed COVID-19 case for some time, and we are ready.
While the number of confirmed cases across the country continues to increase, no Beaumont resident has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Unfortunately, we were notified late last evening that Beaumont’s first employee tested positive for COVID-19. At 7 a.m. yesterday we had already started the distribution of masks to all staff members through our “Skills Fair,” along with education on how to use the mask, take care of it and additional review education on proper hand washing and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
According to our Medical Director, Dr. Charles Breish, in most cases, when one has been exposed to COVID-19 symptoms begin to appear in 5 days. However, they can continue to appear for up to about eleven days. We are six days since the confirmed positive employee was last in the building and we have not seen evidence of residents or staff with signs or symptoms of the virus at this point who had contact with him/her. The employee did everything possible to ensure our safety; as soon as he/she felt ill, they called out of work and stayed home and got tested immediately. We will be contacting the local health authorities to begin our coordination and communication of this event. Please understand that out of respect for patient privacy and HIPAA, we cannot share specifics about this individual. However, we are in close communication with the staff member as we are concerned with their health and well-being. We are appreciative of all of our Beaumont workers as they are committed to serving our residents every day in this time of crisis and they are taking proactive measures to reduce unknown and inadvertent exposures.
We understand that this may cause you increased anxiety and concerns. However, please know that we are very prepared to handle and ready to respond to this situation. Our healthcare teams are experienced in infection control and well-trained in our protocols, which are in full compliance with guidelines from local health authorities, the CDC and other public health officials. We will continue to focus on providing care that is compassionate along with strict infection control practices while taking all measures possible to prevent the spread of the virus here at Beaumont.
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of us all taking steps to limit our exposure: through proper hand washing, continuing to self-isolate, and maintaining social distancing of 6 feet.
I appreciate your kindness and support to each other through these unprecedented times. We are all in this together and it is up to each of us to make good choices that will affect every neighbor, family member or staff member. Thank you and Be Well.

Currently, we do not have any cases of the virus at Beaumont
Beaumont is dedicated to protecting the health and safety of our employees and residents. In an effort to continue to maintain a standard of service to our residents we will be implementing a biweekly cleaning schedule to those residents who wish to participate in the Villas/Apartments.
To keep our residents and staff safe during this time, we will be limiting the possibility of cross contamination by assigning housekeeping teams to specific areas where they will be assigned and work for the entire day. (To ensure staff and resident safety, any requests for specific housekeepers, full cleanings, specific days and times cannot be acknowledged at this time.)
We will be providing the following ESSENTIAL SERVICES as required;
We need to ensure that both residents and staff maintain social distancing of six feet during the Housekeepers visit. Housekeepers will not be permitted to enter any location deemed restricted by the VP of Health Services.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
One of our physicians has tested positive for COVID-19. Exposure at Beaumont was limited to four residents in our healthcare center and one in our Personal Care Center. We took immediate measures to safeguard our residents and staff once we received this information. Residents were put in contact isolation and staff were given personal protective equipment to be able to do their jobs. Staff exposure was limited and no staff have exhibited any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 to date.
Initially, the physician was able to enter our property as they passed the healthcare screening tool, including temperature check. Symptoms did not develop until later and when the testing was done, it took quite some time for the results to come back.
According to our Medical Director, Dr. Charles Breish, in most cases, when one has been exposed to COVID-19, symptoms begin to appear in 5 days. However, they can continue to appear for up to about eleven days. We are close to this eleven day mark and have not had any residents or staff who have exhibited any signs or symptoms up to this point as a result of this exposure.
We are looking to utilize telemedicine when possible moving forward to mitigate unnecessary risk.
We are fortunate to report that the physician is feeling much better and after a period of rest will be able to return when completely well.
All employees, contract staff, and authorized visitors will be asked new health questions at the entrance to Beaumont prior to entering as follow. Please note the changes. If you would answer “yes” to any of the questions, please alert your supervisor immediately for guidance.
Has this individual washed their hands or used alcohol-based hand rub on entry?

At this time, we are restricting on-site contractors to “essential work” only. This means all non-essential contractors, including landscapers and gardeners, are not permitted on-site. Essential work is defined as a safety concern, for regulatory compliance and/or work necessary to keep a resident in their home. This includes interior and exterior work. Units under renovation are permitted to continue at this time provided the contractors follow Beaumont’s temperature scanning and health questionnaire protocol. Thank you for your cooperation.

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
We have some new information to share with you about a few cases related to exposure to COVID-19.
Currently, we do not have any cases of the virus at Beaumont
We recently had two cases in IL in which two residents were exposed to an individual A (has no signs or symptoms of COVID-19 at present) who was exposed to an individual B who tested positive for COVID-19. Both residents are self- quarantining at this time and will be for 14 days after their last exposure. Their health will be monitored closely for any changes.
In another instance, an employee was exposed outside of Beaumont to individual C (has no signs or symptoms of COVID-19 at present) who was exposed to another individual D (who later tested positive for COVID-19). This employee, who currently has no signs or symptoms of the virus, came into contact with twelve residents in HC/IL living areas in one location. These residents are currently under a 14- day quarantine and presently have no signs or symptoms of the virus. We will closely be monitoring their progress and taking all precautions to ensure their safety and yours.
The following changes to our daily activities will occur:

RE: Coronavirus Update
We will provide the most up-to-date information on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and will be issuing weekly bulletins to residents at Beaumont based upon the daily updates we receive from the CDC & Department of Health.
Currently, we do not have any cases of the virus at Beaumont.
The following changes to our daily activities have occurred:
If you as a resident of Beaumont are feeling ill and live in an apartment or villa, we ask that you call the Wellness Office and they will give you further instruction. Also, they can set up meal delivery services if needed. Residents of our Personal Care or Healthcare Center will be evaluated on a daily basis for signs or symptoms of illness and given treatment as indicated.
We would ask that if you see a fellow resident or visitor who actively exhibits signs or symptoms of respiratory illness out in the community, such as in common areas or a dining room, that you report this to the Wellness Office so that we can follow up with the resident or visitor to keep all of us safe and healthy. As with all recommendations, they are only helpful if we all follow them.
We would like to give you an update on our supplies on hand. We have increased our par levels in housekeeping supplies from one months supplies on hand to two months supplies. Also, in culinary, we typically have a par level of three days food on hand; this has been increased to seven days of food on hand. We have also purchased additional foam containers to be prepared in the event we have to deliver meals.
As a reminder, the CDC recommends:
We will continue to keep you informed as we become aware of new information regarding the coronavirus. Your health and safety are our top priority and we are here to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. We will provide regular updates to your healthcare committee members, updates at the town hall meetings, information in your mailboxes and on our new healthcare bulletin board when it is installed.

RE: Coronavirus Update
There has been a great deal on the news lately about updates concerning the coronavirus and some residents have asked: What is our plan at Beaumont to deal with it should we experience an outbreak? First, I would like to say that at present, we are monitoring the situation through the CDC and with input from our medical director Dr. Breish. We recently put information in your mailboxes to give you an update on the virus & information about it. To review, we need to remain calm as our current risk right now is low, despite some of the panic that is starting to appear. This can often occur when we do not have all of the answers for what may occur in the future. Currently, we are more at risk for getting sick with the flu than from the coronavirus. Our plan, should the coronavirus become an issue is very similar to what we would do in the case of a flu outbreak.
We currently have policies & procedures in place to guide us in these circumstances.
We would report cases of the coronavirus to the local & state health department on a daily basis; track symptoms and ensure that residents stay in their rooms or apartments who have the virus according to the health department guidelines. The medical director would be notified immediately and we would work closely with Dr. Breish. Staff would follow standard or droplet precautions as warranted with each resident to ensure that the virus does not spread and so that they themselves do not catch it. Visitation would be restricted. Posted notices notifying residents/others of an outbreak would be displayed. Staff absenteeism would be monitored closely to ensure that if the illness were present in staff that they do not infect residents by returning to work. Housekeeping would be notified so that the proper chemicals could be used to ensure that the virus is killed in the rooms and to ensure that all areas, including high-touch surfaces are properly sanitized. Appropriate masks are available for both sick individuals and for caregivers.
As a reminder, the best way to prevent the coronavirus or any viral respiratory illness (for example, the FLU) is to avoid being exposed to the virus. As a reminder, the CDC recommends:
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose & mouth
• Stay home when you are sick
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing
• If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
We will continue to keep you informed as we become aware of new information regarding the coronavirus. Your health and safety are our top priority and we are here to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. We will provide regular updates to your healthcare committee members, updates at the town hall meetings, information in your mailboxes and on our new healthcare bulletin board once it is installed.

“Many different Beaumont residents have served on the Green Committee over the years and deserve credit for this honor,” said Dr. Stephens. “Through their care and commitment, we have been able to expand the rain gardens and drainage fields, re-introduce native plantings, enhance the capacity of our geothermal pumps, and establish campus-wide composting and a best-in-class recycling program, to name but a few initiatives.”

]]>In the spirit of Gilbert & Sullivan, the performance was preceded by a proper English High Tea. Held in Beaumont’s beautifully restored Victorian Music Room, guests and residents mingled with the Savoy cast over tea and scones, and gather around the piano to hum along to a few Gilbert & Sullivan tunes.
“It was a special opportunity for outside guests to experience Beaumont,” said Joseph Peduzzi, President. “Most of our residents turned out for the event, so visitors had a chance to chat with them directly, ask questions, and get a first-hand look at our lively, vibrant community.”
The performance itself started later in the afternoon in the large Beaumont Room, playing to an audience of roughly 275. Beaumont centenarian resident Alan Tripp, who conceived the program, introduced it and The Savoy Company.
“Gilbert & Sullivan, the world-famous librettist and composer duo, have left an indelible mark”, said Alan Tripp. “Their music was a staple for my generation, I and my peers know virtually every song by heart. And their hilarious and sometimes biting commentary on Victorian society still translates and resonates in the 21st century. Its echoes can be found in everything from supreme court opinions to the Broadway blockbuster Hamilton.”
Sam Griffin, past president of The Savoy Company, stage director of numerous productions, and gifted baritone, was the Master of Ceremonies for the afternoon. His knowledge of Savoy’s history was impressive, and he noted in particular that the operetta Trial by Jury was first performed by The Savoy Company in 1901 at the nearby Merion Cricket Club. He prefaced each song with interesting and amusing anecdotes and cajoled the audience into singing along with the chorus.
After a full afternoon of music and laughter, the audience filed out with a gleam in their eyes, humming a few bars from their favorite songs. Thanks to The Savoy Company, Gilbert & Sullivan’s magic lives on at Beaumont.
